WHO officially announces COVID-19 is pandemic

With the coronavirus infection spreading at an alarming rate in most countries, having infected more than 120,000 people and killed 4,700, the World Health Organization has officially declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic, meaning that the infection has spread over a global geographic region beyond expectations. Even as new cases in China continue to decrease as the virus passes its peak, cases in Europe, US and Asia continue to mount.

Italy tightens coronavirus precautions, shutting down public spaces

The Italian government has tightened its coronavirus restrictions, ordering bars, restaurants, and hairdressers to shut down for the foreseeable future. Only stores that have been deemed essential have been allowed to remain open. The death toll in Italy has risen to 196, making it the hardest-hit country in all of Europe.

The US government has announced that it has suspended all passenger travel to Europe for the foreseeable future due to the spread of the coronavirus in Italy. Indonesia confirms first death from Coronavirus

According to Indonesia’s state-run news agency Antara news, the country recorded the first death from COVID-19 as a 53-year old patient died on Wednesday. The patient was already suffering from serious illnesses including diabetes, lung disease, hypertension, and respiratory obstruction. The patient was a foreign national who died at around 2:00 am on Wednesday according to government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling, Achmad Yurianto.
