"1917" ends "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" number one run at box office

After four consecutive weeks at the number one spot, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been overtaken at the US box office by Sam Mendes' World War I movie 1917, which made 37 million USD compared to Star Wars' 15.1 million. Mendes' direction seems to be the movie's main pull, as the critically acclaimed director won five Oscars in 1999 for his film American Beauty.
