"ALS ice bucket" challenge inspiration Pete Frates succumbs to disease

Pete Frates, the college baseball player whose struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) inspired the viral ALS ice bucket challenge in 2014 and raised 220 million USD for ALS charities, has passed away at the age of 34. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease is a motor neuron disease with no known cure.
