Facebook takes a U-Turn on hate speech policy

Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that the company will change its policies to prohibit hate speech in its advertisements. Under its new policies, Facebook will ban ads that claim people from a specific race, ethnicity, nationality, caste, gender, sexual orientation or immigration origin are a threat to the physical safety or health of anyone else, Zuckerberg said

Facebook has removed some misleading HIV ads after a large amount of controversy

Facebook has finally removed some ads that were spreading misleading information regarding some safe HIV medication, alleging that the medicine had harmful side effects. LGBT groups reported the ads and wrote an open letter to Facebook claiming the ads could put people's lives at risk. The ads have been up since December and have just now been removed.

Pakistan court hands death sentence to lecturer accused of blasphemy

Junaid Hafeez, a lecturer at Multan's Bahauddin Zakariya University, was charged with committing blasphemy, on Facebook and in person, against Prophet Muhammad and the Quran. He was imprisoned in 2013, and after six years, during which his lawyer was murdered and his judges changed eight times, he has been sentenced to death by a court in Multan, a decision lamented by human rights agencies and activists around the world.
