Australia's Kangaroo Island has experienced some of the most intense blazes the country has ever seen. The island functioned as a wildlife sanctuary and was known for its biodiversity but this may no longer be the case as half the island has been burnt. A number of endangered species lived on the island and it is unclear if they survived.
