New Zealand has ended its fire-arm buy back scheme

The New Zealand government has ended its gun buyback scheme and will now implement a full gun ban in the country. The scheme allowed gun owners to sell their weapons to the government before they become illegal. The scheme was started in response to the fatal Christchurch mosque shooting that took place earlier this year.

New Zealand will no longer allow foreigners to enter the country

New Zealand has banned all foreigners from entering the country in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The country has had 28 confirmed cases of the virus and no deaths so far. This decision came right after Australia announced a similar travel ban for non-citizens. They will still be allowing cargo to enter.

New Zealand announces elections in September 2020

New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern's government has announced national elections on September 19, with the government dissolving on August 12. Ardern will be campaigning for re-election, while opposition leader Simon Bridges will be organizing his campaign around Maori land disputes and Ardern's gun buy-back scheme. Ardern's campaign will be focusing on the government's capital spending, which has reached its highest point in 20 years.
