France's traditional baccalaureate exams for high school students, founded under the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1808, have been canceled for the first time in history, marking the severe disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, education minister Jean-Michel Blanquer has stated that students will receive average marks based on the tests and homework they had been assigned throughout the year.
