Trump to invoke Defense Production Act to combat coronavirus pandemic

US President Donald Trump has announced that he will invoke the Defense Production Act to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, which was an act introduced in 1950 during the Korean War giving the President special powers to direct the country's industry to produce critical products and equipment. The Act was amended in 2008 to give the President special powers in times of national emergency.
