UK to discontinue EU Copyright Directive after Brexit

Conservative UK prime minister Boris Johnson's administration has announced that after the country officially leaves the European Union, they will no longer be implementing the EU Copyright Directive, which requires big tech firms to remove copyrighted content uploaded to their websites, applying a heavy penalty should they fail to do so.

TikTok’s transparency report shows company removed 49 million videos

According to TikTok’s latest transparency report published on Thursday, TikTok removed over 49 million videos for content violations in just six months as the company received 500 requests from different Governments. India, where the app was banned last week, had 16.5 million videos removed, which is roughly four times more than any other country. The U.S. had the second most videos removed with 4.6 million. Google plans to pay publishers for news content

After increasing pressure from multiple countries to compensate publishers, Google announced that the company will pay for news content from select publishers as part of a new licensing program announced today. It says the content will form part of a “new news experience” coming later this year. Google says it’s starting the program with publishers in Germany, Australia, and Brazil, but says that it’s got “more to come soon.”
