US courts fine ISP $1b for music piracy

Cox Communications, an Internet Service Provider, was found liable by a US District Court jury for not taking enough action to curb music piracy on its platforms, and has been charged a fine of 1 billion USD for infringements of over 10,000 musical works, payable to Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and EMI. Cox has stated its intentions to appeal the decision.
