US government funded smartphones have Chinese malware pre-installed

According to researchers, a federal US program that helps build Android phones for low-income families is creating smartphones with pre-installed Chinese malware. This malware cannot be removed without ruining the device and the phones are being built by Virgin Mobile, who claim the devices are not malicious in any way.
