Both women and men are affected by COVID-19, but biology and gender norms are shaping the disease burden. Global Health 50/50 data from 39 most affected countries shows that more men are dying as adverse outcomes of COVID-19, including cardiovascular and lung diseases associated with drinking and smoking, are more prevalent in men. On the other hand, women are carrying the burden of increased childcare, elderly care, and housework.
