Bougainville may become the world's newest country

The resource-rich islands in the East of Papa New Guinea are soon going to vote in order to decide whether or not the islands should become independent. There are currently 200,000 voters on the Bougainville islands and they will all cast their ballots on 23rd November. The referendum is coming as a result of a brutal civil war that ravaged the area for an entire decade.

Malaysia's king has named former interior minister Muhyiuddin Yasin as the country's new PM, stating he made the decision expecting he had the support of a majority in parliament. The current PM Mahathir Muhammad, and at 94 years old the oldest PM in the world, has submitted his resignation despite protesting that he had the support of 114 delegates out of 222 in the Malaysian parliament.

Left-wing Irish party Sinn Fein records historic victory in elections

While Ireland's recently held general elections resulted in a rare three-way tie between the three major parties, the left-wing Sinn Fein party has won the popular vote and is set to form a coalition government in the country, winning 24.5 percent of first preference votes, a long way from its crushing defeat in the 2016 elections.

Trump impeachment trial likely to end in acquittal as witnesses blocked

US president Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate may end in his acquittal as soon as Friday, after Democrats' failed to convince the required number of Republicans of the need for new witnesses. Democrats needed four Republicans to vote in favor of further witnesses, but Lamar Alexander of Tennessee has openly opposed the idea with Utah's Mitt Romney and Maine's Susan Collins remaining the only Republican supporters.
