Is "staying home" actually flattening the curve?

Across the world, governments are encouraging people to stay at home and maintain social distance to flatten the curve. Sears J. et al. (2020) have used data on mobility patterns across the U.S. to link changes in travel to health outcomes. They find evidence that mobility reduction after stay-at-home ordinances were enforced in California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York mitigated the negative health consequences of COVID-19.
