An NGO has set up a solar-powered desalination farm in Kenya to provide drinking water to 35,000 people a day. The region the plant has been set up in had been suffering from a drought for many years and the locals had no access to clean drinking water. Most desalination plants are very expensive to run but solar power may solve this issue.

The EU has voted to eliminate all but one kind of charging cable for smartphones
The European Union has decisively voted to eliminate all variations in smartphone charger cables to reduce waste and improve the customer experience. The new regulation will go into effect in July and Apple will now have to revise its plans to remove the charging port from the iPhone entirely.
