Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader and religious head to many Muslims worldwide, announced his support for the Iranian government's decision to raise gasoline prices by 50% in the face of constricting US sanctions. The Ayatollah referred to the protesters as thugs harming public property. His comments were accompanied by a countrywide shutdown of internet services as police prepare to crack down on protests in over two dozen cities.
