Risks associated with school closures due to COVID-19 outbreak
In response to COVID-19 pandemic, 188 countries have implemented country-wide school closures. Based on a modelling study, Ferguson et al. (2020) have concluded that school closures will reduce COVID-19 deaths in UK by 2-4% only. Given a vast majority of children and adolescents experience mild symptoms only, the greatest threat from COVID-19 is restricted learning, socializing and physical activity for 90% of the world's students currently out of education.
