Singapore's fake news act sees first use

Singapore's recently passed Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) saw its first use for a Facebook post made by Brad Bowyer, a British-born Singaporean, claiming that investing companies Temasek Holdings and GIC were under government influence, His post was tagged by a politician from the ruling party, with Bowyer subsequently being asked to amend his post with the government's reply to his statement.

Facebook has deleted a post made by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro claiming the post was full of misinformation. In the post, he claimed hydroxychloroquine was curing the coronavirus everywhere it was used despite the fact that there is no concrete evidence that suggests this. Twitter has also recently removed some of Bolsonaro's posts.

Attorney General orders televangelist to stop selling his 'miracle coronavirus cure'

The New York Attorney General has sent an official to cease and desist letter to televangelist Jim Baker, telling him to stop selling his alleged cure for the coronavirus. Baker has previously been convicted of fraud and even spent time in federal prison. There is currently no specific cure for the virus.

Australian social media investigation deepen, fears of foreign meddling

Following revelations regarding Russian interference in the United States' 2016 elections, the Australian government has begun investigating popular social media such as Facebook, WeChat and Twitter for evidence of meddling by foreign powers. Last month, the country's government mandated that all higher education institutions must disclose transactions with institutions abroad.
