TikTok bans under-16s from private messaging

New rules on the hugely popular TikTok app mean under-16s will no longer be allowed to send or receive direct messages. NSPCC child safety online policy head Andy Burrows said: "This is a bold move by TikTok as we know that groomers use direct messaging to cast the net widely and contact large numbers of children.

According to TikTok’s latest transparency report published on Thursday, TikTok removed over 49 million videos for content violations in just six months as the company received 500 requests from different Governments. India, where the app was banned last week, had 16.5 million videos removed, which is roughly four times more than any other country. The U.S. had the second most videos removed with 4.6 million.
