Uncertainty in EU parliament over climate emergency resolution

A current draft being considered by the European Parliament calls for the EU to declare a global climate emergency, to spur leaders worldwide to greater action against climate change and to be recognized as the first continent to do so. The resolution has the support of the Liberal, Socialist and Green parties, the parliament's dominant European People's party questions the necessity of the word "emergency".

US President Donald Trump has announced that he will invoke the Defense Production Act to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, which was an act introduced in 1950 during the Korean War giving the President special powers to direct the country's industry to produce critical products and equipment.
