Awesome Games Done Quick speedrunning charity raises record $3.1m

The annual Awesome Games Done Quick is a speedrunning charity event, where expert players compete to finish their chosen games as fast as possible to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This year, the event broke last year's record by 700,000 USD, raising a total of almost 3.1 milion USD from more than 54,000 individual donations.

Steam tracker SteamDB has revealed that the popular gaming platform has recently surpassed its own record for player counts by a huge margin, with 18.8 million users currently active compared to 2018's previous record 18.5 million. Bethesda, developer of popular games such as Fallout, Skyrim and Dishonored, has announced a day-long sale in collaboration with its online stores Bethesda.net and the Humble Store, in order to provide charitable contributions during Australia's devastating fire season. SuperData reports Fortnite once again bestselling game of 2019

According to SuperData's gaming report Year in Review, Epic's Fortnite has again topped the charts as the bestselling game of the year, though the figures are not record-breaking like they were in 2018. Fortnite earned a whopping 1.8 billion USD in 2019, followed by familiar popular gaming titles such as FIFA 19, GTA V and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The gaming industry overall earned a record 120 billion USD.

The Witcher 3 surpasses 100,000 players on Steam

For the first time since its original release in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was reported by Steam to have surpassed 100,000 concurrent players, which is far greater than the number of concurrent players the game received in the first week of its launch. The sudden upsurge in the game's popularity has been attributed to the massively popular Netflix Witcher show coupled with heavy discounts on Steam.
