Pope encourages people to resist consumerism on Black Friday

Pope Francis has condemned consumerism, encouraging people to resist consumerism on the days leading up to Christmas. He went on to say that "consumerism is a virus that corrodes faith" as it makes people too self-involved and forget their fellow man. Online sales in the United States have reached an all-time high this weekend.

Pope says the world must change its attitude towards nuclear power

Pope Francis met with the victims of Japan's 2011 nuclear disaster on Monday and said that the world should rethink its dependence on nuclear power. Pope Francis condemns nuclear weapons

In a statement made during the papal visit to Japan, Pope Francis condemned nuclear weapons possession and protested against the abandonment of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation treaties. The Pope spoke from Nagasaki, wherein 1945, 27,000 people were killed immediately following the US' use of atomic bombs in a bid to force Japan to surrender and end the second World War.

Pope visits Thailand, tells locals to not see Christianity as 'foreign'

Pope Francis, on the last day of his trip to Thailand, said that the Thai people should not see Christianity as a foreign religion. Although Christians comprise less than 1 percent of the total population and are largely treated well in modern times, this was not always the case. Catholics were heavily persecuted in Thailand during World War 2.
