Suriname's ex-military president convicted for murder

Suriname's ex-military president Desi Bouterse, who took power by toppling prime minister Henck Arron's government in 1980, was judged guilty by the court for the murder of 16 of his political opponent and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Only one of his targets survived the assassination attempt and managed to deliver testimony against him. Abroad on a tour of China at the moment, president Bouterse will appeal the decision.
