Tennis legend Maria Sharapova announces retirement

The 32-year-old Russian tennis legend Maria Sharapova, former world number one and five-time Grand Slam winner, has announced her retirement from professional tennis, after a disappointing year that saw her knocked out in the first rounds of three Grand Slam tournaments. Sharapova won her first Grand Slam at 17 in 2004, defeating Serena Williams to become one of the most well-known women in sports.
