Vine founder releases replacement app Byte

Dom Hoffman, co-creator of the popular, now-defunct short-form video-sharing app Vine, promised dismayed users that he would release a replacement for Vine when it officially shut down in 2017, following which he has released an app called Byte on the iOS and Android platforms which functions in exactly the same way. Byte's main competitor is the Chinese app TikTok, which currently boasts over 1.5 billion downloads.
