Instex welcomes six new member countries

Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden have become the newest members of the France-England-Germany backed Instex, a trading mechanism that allows European countries to trade with Iran without violating treaty agreements. The move comes as part of the European response to the Trump administration's withdrawal from the Iran deal in 2018, which was followed by a reinstatement of heavy sanctions on Iran.

After the attack on London Bridge on Friday, the British government is looking into why the attacker was released from prison early despite being convicted of terrorism-related crimes. Justice Department officials claim he appeared to have been completely rehabilitated and took part in a number of rehabilitation programs before and after his release.

The Chinese government has accused U.N. commissioner, Michelle Bachelet of inflaming the Hong Kong protests. The commissioner wrote an article on Saturday in which she encouraged the government to use meaningful and inclusive dialogue to solve the crisis and hold an investigation into police brutality against protesters. China claims this article interferes with the internal affairs of the state.

An environmental activist group has set up camp in a coal mine in Germany in order to protest the government's plan to tackle climate change. The protesters are demanding that the mine be shut down and that large changes be made to society and the economy. The protest is entirely non-violent.

Suriname's ex-military president convicted for murder

Suriname's ex-military president Desi Bouterse, who took power by toppling prime minister Henck Arron's government in 1980, was judged guilty by the court for the murder of 16 of his political opponent and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Only one of his targets survived the assassination attempt and managed to deliver testimony against him. Abroad on a tour of China at the moment, president Bouterse will appeal the decision.

Convicted jihadist assaults on London Bridge, 2 dead

Usman Khan, a 28-year-old who was previously imprisoned for planning a terrorist attack along with several others, armed himself with a knife and assaulted pedestrians on London Bridge, leaving a man and a woman dead and another two injured from the wounds. Khan was apprehended by two passersby who defended themselves with a fire extinguisher and a narwhal tusk, before police arrived on the scene.

North Korea lashes out against Japanese Prime Minister

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that North Korea has been testing ballistic missiles off its East Coast. In response, North Korean state media called him an 'imbecile and a dwarf' and said that he may see a real ballistic missile in the near future. North Korea has repeatedly stated that they are just testing a large multiple-rocket launcher, not ballistic missiles.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that terrorism sentences should be fully enforced. He said this in response to the London Bridge attack after it was revealed that the attacker had been convicted of terrorism-related crimes but was released from prison a year ago. He went on to say that it is a mistake to allow dangerous criminals out of prison early.

Sudan's interim government has, to much rejoicing, repealed a law instated by the previous 30-year dictatorial regime of President Omar al-Bashir and his National Congress Party, which gave authorities control over the way women were allowed to dress and behave in public, including authority over employment and clauses prohibiting women from wearing pants in public. Bashir was ousted following widespread civilian protests and support from the military establishment.

Yorgen Fenech, prominent businessman arrested for involvement in the murder of investigative journalist Caruana Galizia, was denied immunity by the government of Malta. Fenech, who has significant interests in retail, property, hospitality and gambling, filed a plea for immunity for his cooperation in Galizia's murder case. Fenech has been connected to powerful government officials, with two ministers being made to resign due to being involved with him.

Ohio passes stricter abortion laws

The Ohio state legislature, following the pattern of stricter abortion laws being introduce in the US by Republican majority states, recently introduced a law that would ask doctors to re-implant ectopic pregnancies or risk being charged with abortion murder. Ectopic pregnancies occur when the embryo implants itself onto the woman's fallopian tubes instead of the uterus. There is no known procedure for re-implanting the embryo in such a way.

Newest polls by YouGov predict a landslide victory for the UK's Conservative party in the upcoming elections, with a win in 359 out of 650 seats.
